Connelly: Conservationists sue to restore Yellowstone grizzly protection

Caption Close A conservation group, Wildlife Guardians, wants a federal court to restore protections of grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem, challenging "premature removal" of the bears from safeguards of the Endangered Species Act. The group is charging that the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service was wrong to de-list Yellowstone grizzlies, and turn management back to nearby states. The decision opens a path to hunting grizzlies outside boundaries of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. "The Service's decision is riddled with flaws, not based in science nor the law, and places this icon of all that is wild squarely in the crosshairs of extinction once again," said Kelly Nokes
